Tales from a Greek Kitchen

A little course on preparing traditional Greek finger food for a sunny day in the park

Katerina Psimopoulos presented a short course on healthy Greek cooking that taught participants how to prepare a traditional summer picnic meal with authentic recipes along with giving an introduction of the history of food and gastronomy in Greece

Cost was €35 euro including organic ingredients.

A social event for all members with music, a Co-op history display and fabulous food: vegan and vegetarian plus macrobiotic dishes by Su Stori; cider and fruit juices.

Dublin Food Co-op AGM

Thursday 25th March 2010

Dublin Food Co-op's 2010 AGM, plus a brief SGM to deal with constitutional amendments, were held at the Co-op on the evening of Thursday 25th March. Those attending received a report from the Chairperson, reviewed the accounts and gave full consideration to six motions. The often lively meeting on went well into the night!

Minutes of the meeting will be circulated to all members shortly.



Furniture Making from Pallets Workshop

Saturday 27th February 2010

Members were invited to learn how to create useful and beautiful items of furniture from everyday old pallets. Skills learns were: how to dismember pallets while conserving the planks intact; how best to construct for strength; and what and how to apply natural finishes depending on the end use. In practical terms, the session focussed on building the till counters for the new front space.



Fairtrade Talk and Video

To coincide with Fairtrade Fortnight, the Co-op welcomed Hella Alikuru, Fair Trade International Regional Coordinator for East Africa, and Oscar Gonzales, from a coffee co-operative in Nicaragua, to talk about their experience of the positive impact of Fair Trade in the developing world. This was followed by a screening of 'Black Gold': a film about the impact of the coffee industry on the lives of 74,000 Ethiopian coffee farmers .

Carnival at The Co-op (Help Rota Social)

The King of The Carnival (straw dummy) presided over a Carnival to celebrate the end of winter laughing and having a lark.

The night included a smattering of: three-legged, egg-n-spoon, costumes and masks, music, stories, games, laughter, drinks, fruits, crepes and the like.



Improvisational Comedy Gameshop (with theYESmanifesto)

Thursday 18th February 2010

After a long cold yucky winter came an invite to join a couple of hours of Improv comedy games: "Whether you're a regular or its your very first time.. come and lend us the sound of your laughter.. if you havent heard it for a long time.. you are in for a treat.. it'll be the best and most funnest thing you will do for your Mental Health on Thursday 18th February ; this year or any year"

Homeopathic First Aid (with Seamus Byrne)

From Friday 12th February 2010

This course was an exciting opportunity to enter into the world of energy medicine, covering the basics in homepathic philosophy, principles and history. It offered participants the chance to learn to use 36 different remedies to treat acute conditions, enablking them to treat family and friends for common ailments, such as colds and flus, bumps and bruises and more.

Georgian Harmony Singing Workshop (with Frank Kane)

Thursday 4th February

Working with the essence of the voice as revealed in Georgian song brings insights that can enhance any form of singing and the speaking voice and offers a rich path of self-discovery.

Frank Kane first heard Georgian songs in 1982 and traveled to Georgia for the first time in 1984. This was the beginning of a long-standing passion which led him to found the Kartuli Ensemble in the United States and later the Marani and *Irinola* ensembles in France. His teaching approach uses exercises with vibration, the raw material of our voices and our selves, to shed light on the principles that underlie this singing. This workshop was an oppportunity to explore our voices and ourselves.

Cost: €20 (€15 conc.)



Improvisational Comedy Workshop

Saturday 23rd January / Saturday 12th December

Improvisational Comedy WorkshopThis 2 hour morning workshop offered "an awesome opportunity for participants to laugh their socks off and astonish themselves".

Those attending learnt the 3 golden rules of improvisational comedy and played games that put them into action. It provided a unique way to increase spontaneity, think outside the box, play like a kid and laugh like a drain.
