Membership is at the very heart of the Dublin Food Co-op and the key to our uniqueness. While everyone is welcome and there is never a requirement to join, we actively encourage visitors to become members.
The Co-op is owned and controlled by its members; participation and volunteering are our lifeblood and the reason we thrive.
As a members' organisation, Dublin Food Co-op provides vital support for local, sustainable and organic food supply.
In the tradition of co-operatives, we also deliver significant benefits to our members, including the chance to:
A welcome/membership desk is located at the entrance every Saturday. Annual membership costs €25. A 50% discount on annual fees will will be applied on production of proof of student, social welfare recipient or state pension status.
Fáilte sessions are held every month to welcome and introduce new members to the Co-op.
All members receive a 5% discount on the purchase of Co-op produce. Those who volunteer time as part of the Help Rota get an additional 10% discount (i.e 15% in total). Help Rota volunteers are asked to contribute 2 hours to the running the Co-op every 5 weeks. Times are flexible and roles include stocking shelves, assisting with cleaning and shut down and staffing the welcome/membership desk.
Members steer the direction of the Co-op at the annual general meeting and elect a board to carry through policy. Other mechanisms for direct democracy and member consultation are also used.
